4 Ways...
to Connect with God in Your Hectic World
by E. A. Cox 1. Bathe Daily
Hopefully, you bathe daily, whether you take a shower or a bath, you should be engaging in some sort of cleansing of yourself on a regular basis. And since you do this everyday, why not be productive while you rinse out the conditioner? Use the time you have in the shower to pray. Assign someone to pray for when you shampoo, someone when you use conditioner, soap, and so forth. It’s a great way to connect with God without taking time away from anything else. 2. Use a Symbol
Let’s be honest, the school day can be long and hectic and even though you may have the best intentions to pray during the day, it just doesn’t happen. Well, try this: put some sort of item in your locker, like a magnet or a blank piece of paper. Each time you open your locker to get books or your lunch or whatever, you’ll see it and remember to pray. It doesn’t have to be an obvious prayer list, just something you recognize and act upon. 3. Find a Time
Many people have told me through sermons or books or other things that I must do my “quiet time” first thing in the morning. This was a little distressing to me because I am not a morning person and when I tried to spend time with God in the morning, I usually spent more time with my pillow. It is important to spend time with God daily, and the best way to do that is to find a time that works for you; in the morning when you get up, at night before you go to bed, or in the afternoon while you’re doing homework. Once you’ve found a time that works, it will be much easier to spend time with God on a regular basis. And doing this will strengthen your personal relationship with God. 4. Take your Time
So many people sit down and read an entire book for their quiet time. While some books are short, such as Philemon, those that try to read Psalms in one sitting have some issues. It can be intimidating to try to read a book, or even a chapter, at a time. Find a pace that works for you and stick with it. Maybe you just read a few verses or a section (as defined by the bold headings). Once you’ve found something that works, stay the course, and seek to grow closer to God through the Word.
